The Guildford County School District transitioned to online school learning as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While this helped to stop the spread of the virus within schools, it posed another major problem. How would the kids who don’t have access to technology at home be able to participate, and excel, in online classes?
Winston McGregor of Guilford Education Alliance was determined to find a solution for Guilford County students. Ms. McGregor reached out to Adrian, forming a partnership between Technology for the Future and the Guilford Education Alliance. “I made a call to Adrian Martinca at Technology for the Future and he really quickly responded with a partnership that we thought we could make work”, Ms. McGregor shared.
Within the first month, the Dream Force team was able to donate over 3,700 laptops to students doing online classes at home alone. “On our team, we call it Operation Dream Force because we believe technology is a gateway for our children to be successful and to know they truly have the community, such as ourselves here, and everyone that’s been part of this remarkable effort, standing by them as Champions to help them” Adrian explains.
By the end of December 2020, Technology for the Future donated over 10,000 laptops to kids in the Guilford County School District to children who would not have otherwise had access to technology during the pandemic. Thanks to the help of donors and community leaders, Technology for the Future was able to ensure that thousands of students were able to continue learning as their education moved out of the schools and into their homes.
