The video, Change Begins With Us, highlights how 1 in 4 households in America do not have access to technology. We visited Gillespie Park Elementary, were Adrain got the opportunity to speak to a group of over 25 5th graders holding their wrapped presents anxiously awaiting to open them as part of their graduation ceremony.
Ms. Lei Washington, Principal of Gillespie Park Elementary, got in contact with Adrian about implementing technology at the Gillespie Park Elementary School. Ms. Washington told Adrian about the struggles the school experienced due to lack of access. She shares stories about teachers having to rely on their own smartphones, small projectors, and classroom clickers in order to increase class participation and engagement. Technology for the Future donated over 25 laptops to students at the school to help give them more access to opportunity, not only for their education, but for their dreams as well.
“Focus on the vision in your mind, whatever you want to create, you can do it. And as long as you have technology, you have everything right there at your fingertips”, Adrian says, encouraging students to follow their dreams. “Technology gives you access to anything you want to know and it teaches you how to do it… Your age doesn’t matter. I was 13 years old when I started a company that now has over 3000 clients across the entire world. Our goal as an organization, as a community, is to open doors for opportunity for our children” Adrian adds. The children proceed to opening their gifts and smile with excitement in their eyes. The students gather together for a photo, holding their new laptops up in the air.
Adrian hopes students will hear his message and use it to fuel belief in their own dream. It is up to us to create a better world for our kids. We must come together as a family in order to care for one another as we would our own family. When we look out for our children and celebrate their dreams, we are ensuring a brighter future.
